My family sucks.

My mother and her sister can’t STAND each other. They resent pretty much every movement the other makes and instead of accepting each other for who they are and moving forward with their lives they re-hash and RE-HASH every minute detail of their lives so they can be miserable and lament on the terrible childhood they suffered (it wasn’t that bad).

Now they are trying to suck me in and I WILL HAVE NO PART OF IT!

The letter on the left and the list on the right is stuff my mother sent to my aunt in March. The letter was bitchy and mentioned me several times because I (stupidly) looked up some information (on ancestry.com and zillow.com) for her/them on the internet to try to shut them up. My mother proceeded to make a list of what I looked up for her and mail it to my aunt, while chastising my aunt for not looking it up herself.

My aunt then replied - TO ME. I haven’t even read it all because the first sentence pissed me off so much I am still seething at being involved in the first place. “IF we had known of plans to celebrate your mom’s birthday we could have perhaps made a brief appearance…” 1) It was in Chicago. They live north of Grand Rapids, MI. Why would we even consider inviting them? 2) We haven’t had family parties for decades. Why would we consider doing such now? 3) My kid was puking the night before and we didn’t even go.

I can’t even mention to my mother how pissed I am because she’ll just repeat it back to my aunt and I’ll be dragged deeper into it.

I don’t understand why they thrive on this dislike of each other. If my sister and I hated each other this much we’d just wash our hands of it and never speak. Neither of us could be bothered to maintain the drama. My uncle has done essentially just that. He doesn’t communicate with them except at funerals. When they were bickering over how to divide my grandmother’s ashes (yeah, they did) he just declined his 1/3 of GG. Of course, my mother decided that my aunt is hoarding that portion and my aunt refused to divvy it up… Not that it matters, my mother kept GG in her trunk for years, allowing her to spill all over the place in there. (No folks, I couldn’t make this crap up!)

Anyway. Maybe I’ll take an extra anxiety pill and work up to reading the letter sometime this weekend.

I tell you what, taking the child to the zoo by myself is exhausting. She’s a runner so I have to constantly herd her.

The giraffes were out though. We bought six pieces of lettuce and she charmed the zookeeper so much that the lady kept giving her more lettuce scraps. It was nice that the platform wasn’t swamped with people.

Wow. I have had this conversation with the kid, almost word for word, frequently recently. It is days like this that make me hand her off to C the second he walks into the door from work so I can go hide in the bathtub for a while.

Thanks! That bread was really tasty and super easy to make. I found it on this website. We’ve also made it with rosemary and kalamata olives and another with shredded cheese.

Attempting to reintroduce nap time. Because this mommy needs it. She gave it up at 18 months. She’s now 33 months. Yesterday was a success and we both had a GLORIOUS nap. Fingers crossed for today.
